Seahawks Quilt

I recently finished a quilt that has been on my list for quite some time. I finally bit the bullet, forked over the cash for fancy true nfl fabric & got it started.

I just did a simple middle with the Seahawks logo fabric & just put a simple border on it. Then I just put it on my quilt machine & I quilted it. I even let the boys help a little bit.,

Once it was all quilted we added a dark binding on.
And finally finished it. Yay for one more project done this year.

It was actually quite simple to make. So happy for this boys thrilled reaction.

1 hour basket

I am on Instagram (countryroadquilts) & has seen so many people post about the one hour basket I had to look into it. There is a great Free pattern on craftsy. Just search one hour basket once you get there. You will find it rather quickly.
My favorite part of the basket is she was true to her word. It really only takes an hour maybe less.

These were my starting fabrics. The pink one is from Quilted fish Cottage Garden collection. I have some FQ bundles in my shop.  The grey is some I had leftover from a quilt I made my neice.

I think cutting it out took longer than putting it together. A short hour later: it's finished.
I will be making more soon!!!

"The Kreu Quilt"

I had been working on a project for quite some time & today  I am excited to show you the 1st of hopefully many to come. So here it is "The Kreu Quilt." A Country Road original quilt.

"The Kreu Quilt"

This quilt is a quick crib/toddler size quilt & goes to together fairly quickly with the help of chain piecing. The Monogram, is appliqued on & can be change to fit whatever letter you need.

The back is a solid piece of brown with continuing arrows from the front  cutting in around a 1/3 of the way through. This makes it cute from not only the front, but also the  back.

The pattern will be shared soon, so check back for it or e-mail me if interested. Anyways I am so excited about this one. It has been my first quilt that I took from my mind to finished project, and I hope you enjoy it!  Here are a few more pictures:

An New Apron

The other day, I wanted to sew something. I wanted it to be quick. I wanted something I could do start to finished in couple of hours or less. I have several quilts in the works, but I really wanted to see a finish product. I also wanted to go to a quilt store & buy fabric. I love a quilt store.

However, I am trying to be better about living on a budget on & it didn't fit. So I tried to get creative. I came across a men's shirt similar to this:

It happened to be in a bag of clothes that needed sorting through before being donated to the local thrift store. I happened to find  a green & yellow one, both  a XXL. I decided I would use what I had on hand to make an apron. I turned that over sized men's shirt, into a brand new apron.

It is double thick, & has a pocket, which next time I will add some decorative edge on, so it stands out more. But it was quick & I am quite happy with the result.

It was fairly quick, & not to difficult. I am working on a couple of more t-shirt aprons & will hopefully be able to put a tutorial on in a few weeks. Do you have any t-shirts that would work? Don't get rid of them quite yet.  Anyways, happy Monday & we will talk to you soon!

Blessed

I had a wonderful thanksgiving & hope you did as well. We ate way too much yummy food & pie. We played, took naps & visited & I didn't take a single picture!

I am so frustrated with myself for not taking pictures. I am going to have to beg some off everyone else. :0)

I was especially grateful for the safe return of my hubby & our amazing neighbors who braved the blizzard to get him & his hunting buddies. He finally got home about 2:30 am on Thursday.

So I have started to think of Christmas gifts. I have a tradition of a handmade present to my kids. I am really hoping to get those started later today. It always takes me awhile to make something.

I hope you are able to continue to enjoy your weekend. Before I go here is a hint to what I will be making this year.

Mystery Quilt Along

I go to a quilt group, once a month. I think I have mentioned it here before. I love it.  It close & local & well I just love it. Did I mention that already??  Well, I happened to be the President of the quilt group for the year (it rotates every year,) so this year I happen to be in charge. We decided last month to do another Mystery Quilt Along. I thought I would invite you to join along. The way it works, is you can go along with us on this mystery if you so desire. Or not. The mystery is you are making a quilt without actually knowing what the final result will be.  .  . .
So this month we are just gathering supplies. The end quilt is one from a Quilter Online & at the end of it all I will give her all the credit. There are 3 sizes of finished quilts to choose from.
For now, here are the instructions:
       Mystery Quilt Along

The  original quilt was done with a combination of warm & cool Fabrics, but you could also choose light & darks, Colors & Neutrals. This would also work great with Charm Packs.

Choose 44 fabrics: 22 Warm, 22 Cool and cut:
176 Warm colored 5” squares

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Feel free use more or less fabrics than I've indicated, it's up to you and the size of your stash! You can use as many different fabrics as you'd like, the numbers above are just a starting point. This quilt is all about using what you have, the scrappier the better! On the flip side, if you have a smaller stash, you could easily do this with 10 different fabrics, you'd just need to cut more squares from each fabric! Simply keep track of the # of squares you have as you cut, and be sure to only cut squares for one quilt size, unless you're making two quilts! ;)

Mail . . .

I love getting mail, especially when it is something other than bills. I got a package & I am so excited I can hardly contain my excitement.

ScrapTherapy Cut the Scraps!: 7 Steps to Quilting Your Way through Your Stash

It is a book I heard about at my quilt group.  It is meant to help with my large boxes of scrap fabrics I can't seem to part with yet.  So I am very excited!!  I love a good quilt book, & just reading it makes me want to get into my scraps & start making a system of organizing them!

Also, right now we are trying to finish gathering our items for home school. I have our basic curriculum outlined & one day will actually share it with you.  Some subjects we won't officially start until after Labor Day Weekend, because I won't pick items up until then, but others I will be ordering this week. One thing this year we are going to do is these:
The Story of the World: History for the Classical Child: Volume 1: Ancient Times: From the Earliest Nomads to the Last Roman Emperor, Revised Edition

So we are getting excited for things at this house.  We are doing daily journaling right now. Last year doing this was like pulling teeth, (so I never pushed it really hard) but this year the boys are excited to do it. So we as a family are trying to make it a daily habit. Me included. So far they have been writing more & more. My motto for this year when it comes to homeschooling : Inspire, not Require.

What fun things have you been getting in the mail?

A few finished projects

If you remember correctly for months at the first of the year on my to do list every week was crocheting slippers. & finishing the Costley quilt. They both have been done for a while now, & I thought I would share the finished products.

One of my goals this year is to learn to crochet. I found some awesome videos that have taught me most everything I know. They are amazing & if I forget something I just go back and watch the video I need again. You can read more about the videos, my goal to learn to crochet & a link to this pattern & others HERE on this old post.

Anyways I finally finished making them. Here is a snapshot of the finished project one afternoon.

They are actually pretty comfortable & I have planning on making another pair or two. My boys are now begging me to make them some kind of slipper. I purchased a pattern yesterday, now I just need to pick up a new sized crochet needle & I will be good to go.

The other item I finished was a original quilt for my sister-in-law. There is no pattern for this one, just the one I drew out. They wanted a cowboy quilt for the new little boy & after debating over & over what I wanted to do. This became the finished product, the cowboy silhouettes are all appliqued on.

Sad to say I actually never saw it completed. It went to the quilters (my amazing mother) & then shipped from there, because I was already late on it. So my mother just sent me a picture. But I am happy how it turned out.

I have a few more finished projects to show, ones that I made for our little Coyote, but that will have to wait until another day. Happy Wednesday, ya'll.

An update . . .

I can't seem to get much blogging in lately. Or so it seems. So here is a little update on life . . . and a glimpse at some of our finished projects.
  I am
  •     still very pregnant & sick. But still won't take zofran due to the fact that they  can't guarantee it won't hurt this baby & after several miscarriages, it just doesn't seem worth the risk. No matter how small.
  •    busy with home school & life.
  •    been going on almost 2 months with only one car, & I amazed at how much more I get done & I really don't miss it, most days.
  •    loving this mild winter. We spend hours outside & it is so gorgeous. It makes me want to get my garden planted. But I know it is still way to early to start planting.
  • started trying green smoothies. I have only had a couple, but so far they don't seem to bad.
  • started walking again. It has been a while & I am quite slow. but it feels so good.
  • am crocheting still. I am working on those cute slippers & the city girl cap for me. Now if I can only stay focused & get one done.
  • been really drawn into Project Life. or at least the concept. I have debated whether or not I should buy the kit & try it. But then I have to print pictures & I don't know I wasn't convinced.  I  don't want to buy more stuff when I am really trying to get rid of a lot of our "stuff" we have. I do have a lot of scrap booking supplies as it is & digital ones as well.  So I decided I could just use what I already have & create my own digital version. I am slow, but I am working on it & hope to get last month completed soon. Then at the end of the year, I will have them all put into a hard bound book. I am quite excited about it.
  • have a house that really needs me to get off the computer & work on it. : ) Does anyone else house seem to "blow up" Sunday night? Ours does.
  • have been getting projects finished & am so excited about how some of them turned out. Here is just a glimpse.
A science experiment me & the boys tried. More on this later.
My quick sew crochet needle holder.
It was going to be a tutorial, but I don't like the end result.  So I am tweaking it & making a new one 1st, & then I will post the tutorial.

(Above) Pictures taken of my new niece, Chelsey.

(Right) We tried our hand at Homemade bouncy balls, that I found off pinterest. We were more disappointed with the result than happy. Oh well, that is why they are science experiments.

We decided one afternoon to try our hand at making homemade stuffed animals. My cowboy requested a penguin. So we drew out a pattern &
this was the end result.
He isn't perfect, but still kind of cute.

My little dude & the monkey decided they wanted turtles. We got the pattern from here on Make it & Love it.
The little dude is the one on the left, & the Monkey's is the brown & green one. The boys think we need to make
one more for the baby.

The finished pajamas that I made for Robyn a few weeks ago. She sent me a picture with her kid & the dolls in the pajamas. So cute!

I also finished painting my sewing table & sewing my pajamas. But I don't have pictures of those yet.  So that is a little update on our lives. Now, off to tackle the house. Happy Monday.

Handmade Christmas part #1

So I promised to show of  we made for my boys for Christmas. Here is the first set of pictures. I tried to get my boys to be "models" but it's not really their thing, so what we see is what we have.

What we did, is I  made all three of my boys Wool vests.  I couldn't get my little dude to pose for anything, so I will have to try again. I had been thinking about making them for quite some time, but I was hesitant. I am a quilter more than a seamstress, but my husband was sold on the idea.   He was so excited, that one night when I just wanted to crawl into bed due to morning sickness. Yes, . . . I am one of those blessed people that have morning sickness for my whole pregnancy. I spend 10 months sick daily, throwing up, & dry heaving. It's awesome, but it is how pregnancy & my body get along. ( Or not get along).

So one evening, my husband convinced me he would cut them all out if I would just lay on the bed & tell him what to do, & he did. Bless his heart. The coolest part of these wool vests is that we made them out of old
 army blankets like these:

OLIVE DRAB U.S. 70% VIRGIN WOOL BLANKET

They are made from 70% Virigin Wool, & the fabric is naturally fire retardant. Not because being Fire Retardant is really necessary, but it just makes them sound that much more tough. Vests that you could walk through fire in (not recommended) but it sounds tough. We had a piece of one lying around & cut them, dyed them & lined them with a black flannel. The boys are in love with them & are wearing them everywhere. Well except for my little dude, that is convinced his is a CAMPING only wool vest & won't wear it until we make it camping. It might be awhile, but I will keep on trying to convince him. So I am actually thrilled how they turned out & have had several people ask about them. So  I am considering making a few some similar ones, maybe more wool ones  & putting them in my Etsy shop. I will let you know if I do. Here is a slightly better look. The blanket we used had a slight pattern in it & you can faintly notice them.

Anyways, I am linking up to the Polkadot Chair Homemade Christmas linky Party.the Polkadot Chair

So go check it out & I will try to get my other homemade present on here later this week.
