Summer Fun

I just got back from a girls weekend with my sisters & mom. It was fantastic!! 3 days of visiting, crafting, shopping, a little chocalate & a whole lot of fun. I will post about it later, but I wanted to share a few pictures from earlier this summer. I went to spend a few days at my mom's house in June. While we were there we did some fun activities. The weeks theme was "Sky High" and my sister & her kids had been learning about things in the sky: clouds, stars, the moon etc. We were lucky enough to join them for a few days.
We did shaving cream painting at the park and made clouds.

We did a science experiment with Ivory soap.  We put this in the microwave and got...

this neato cloud!

The kids played at the park.

My sister made delicious 'cloud' parfaits

After my sister had showed my brother this recipe on pinterest he was all excited to try it out.  So he made us all a scrumptious batch of edible worms.

MMmmmmmm....appealing don't you think?

The kids all eating one :) (See Below)
(My sister broke into song and sang "Everybody hates me, know body likes me.  I guess I'll go eat worms..." everyone looked at her funny, my brother & I included. She says its a real song, I am in doubt. Does anyone else remember that song?)

All the cousins eating a worm. In fact, we all eventually joined in & have pictures of my sister, mom & I eating some as well. They are kind of gross & slimy going down. My sister & kids were able to finally meet new little boy.  The kids all LOVED him.  What a cutie!

Anyways, I meant to share earlier, but life has been crazy! We had such a fun time, I am glad we went. It so good to be with family.

The House that Built Me

We had a family reunion last weekend. One with all my Grandma & mom's brothers & sisters & kids. My sister put together a video of my Grandma's home. A place we all played, loved, laughed & created memories there that will last a lifetime. My kids are lucky enough to live close enough to my grandma to have created their own memories here as well. I love my grandma so much & love that we can still visit her today &  I love her house that built me.

Generations

This aren't the final pictures, but I already love them so much I couldn't wait for the others better ones to show. We went to a family reunion last week & my sister told me about this awesome picture she has seen. So we decided to give it a go. A 4 Generation picture, of hands. Its my Grandmother, Mother, Mine & my baby.

Learning

They say your never to old to learn, today I am testing that theory. I am learning to drive a backhoe. It's one of those pass fail kind of tests. They say those are the best, because you instantly know your grade. I am not so sure since it is my husband & son on the end & being raised into the air.

Anyways I am only 1/4 of the way done with my test. My nerves are shot. Oh well, here I go again. Keep me in mind today. I am trying to learn quickly, but it sure makes me nervous. I going to review for a few more minutes before I start again. Because one things for
certain I really need to pass!!

(pictures will come later. I come later. I can't seem to load them from my phone right now.)

Off the beaten path

Yesterday the boys asked if we could head to the mountains. So we agreed that if they got their chores for the day done, then we would. Well they worked hard & fast. So yesterday we spent a wonderful evening chilling just off of this beaten path.

It was such a beautiful evening. The perfect temperature, & absolutely beautiful. It has been a few years since I have been up in this canyon.  We loved it. The boys played hard:

While my baby watched from his car  seat.

Then the boys had dad take them on a little hike . . .

Once again, the baby & I chilled.

                                                               And kept the fire going.

Me & the babe, hanging out back at camp.  We enjoyed the scenery & sounds of the great outdoors, while the boys were gone.

I know that this tree is random ,but I love the you can see it's gnarled roots.

A little bit later, they returned.

Not really sure why this little boy, headed up the mountain without shoes, but whatever his reason may be; it look like it made the hike for him a lot easier.

Then we sat around the campfire eating our campfire cooked hot dogs & later roasting marshmallows.

We roasted marshmallows, played a bit, more & headed home. It was such a nice break & change of pace.   I think we will start doing it a lot more.

Favorite hours

I just got back from one of my favorite hours of the month. Quilt club. We have such a variety of ideas & examples. We laugh, we eat & I always come home happy & inspired..

Inspired to sew.

Inspired to give more.

Inspired with colors schemes.

Inspired to get my things in order.

Inspires to help others.

Inspired to create.

One lady brought this quilt & I love the colors & fabric. I think it's called urban cowgirl. I might have to get my hands on some.

It is all really inspiring..

Yea, I love that hour.

Hot Fudge Sauce

The boys earned a treat the other day, so we made hot fudge sundaes. It was delicious. The recipe for the sauce is quick, simple & most importantly delicious.

Hot Fudge Sauce

1/2 c. Butter
1 can of evaporated milk
1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 c. Powdered sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla

Mix everything together. Bring to a boil on the stove. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat & let cool a little & serve warm over ice cream. Gain 5 lbs. (Well that's usually what happens next.) Enjoy!

Growing Celery

So I saw this idea on Pinterest originally. ( I will try to track down the original, is at Chickens in the Garden). Anyways I thought it was fantastic, so I tried it & so far its working.

Growing Celery

Take your store bought celery. The one you used all the stalks on & are about to throw away in the trash. (Or in our case, to the animals.) Make a clean cut all the way across the top & a thin slice off the bottom. Put in water & it will start to grow.  When I have time, I am going to take this plant & put it in our garden. You plant it will stalk side up, just dig a small whole, fill it with water & set the end in the whole. Cover it with an inch or so of soil & water thoroughly. I plan on getting a whole row growing at different stages so I always have plenty of celery in the garden.

The plant above is about a week old. I am so excited to grow my own celery & to propagate it out of the stuff I bought from the grocery store. I couldn't help, but share. So next time don't throw your celery in the trash, grow your own.
